About 6 months ago, I asked Matt Greenall of www.ar15.co.uk to build me an SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) themed AR15. Given the problems associated with acquiring a proper SPR style muzzle break and Supressor collar, the rifle was not to be a proper Mk12 MOD 1 clone, and it sits somewhere inbetween SPR and SDM styles. The issue SPR in it's second revision is shown here:
Notice the KAC rail, KAC BUIS, 20rd Mag, ARMS #20L rings and Leupold Scope. The pistol grip here is not standard however, the original A2 style pistol grip is used, and upgrades have used the Falcon Ergo Grip. The Squad Designated Marksman based rifle is very similar but is an Army product as opposed to a Navy Product and an early revision is shown below: As seen, it uses a Daniel Defense rail system, standard foresight and flash hider but shares many features with the SPR. The original spec of my rifle was very similar to the MOD 1 SPR and although some parts were closer to the SDM, it's worked out pretty well I think. The Specification is: Rock River Arms Lower Receiver Hogue Grip CMT Upper Reciever with Badger Tac Latch Walther 1-9 Twist Barrel in Stainless Yankee Hill Machine Fore-end Standard Foresight ARMS #20 Rings and SWFA Sniper Scope ARMS Bipod mount and Harris Bipod
Taking into consideration the difficulty of sourcing any parts for something the UK considers a Section 5 rifle, and something the US currently won't export unless the I.T.A.R paperowrk is filled out, I managed to get nearly everything I wanted for it. Once the normal 3 month wait to get the parts in the country was over, Matt Greenall did a fantastic job and it was completed very quickly. However, once I started using the rifle I decided I prefered the M4 stock, and also ordered a Falcon Ergo Grip. The end result is shown here, modelled by a serving Royal Marine, who decided it makes a nicer rifle than the SA80!
